Absolutely Awful

Things went catastrophically wrong. It was a real mess. We tried to {compensate|address the situation, but it was like trying to stop a tsunami with a cocktail stick. We're still picking up the debris and feeling the blow of this unmitigated catastrophe.

This crisis has spiraled out of control. It's a total fiasco. We've tried anything to fix it, but nothing seems to work. At this point, it feels like we're hopelessly stuck. Honestly, I don't know what else to do. This is a mess of epic proportions.

Sometimes you find yourself face-to-face with situations so terrible that you can't help but laugh. It's like your brain tries to understand the sheer magnitude of destruction and just resigns itself to fate, opting for a weak, desperate giggle as a coping strategy.

In the end, you are left with a sense of bewilderment. You start ruminating about the purpose of it all. Was this some kind of twisted art experiment?

Or were we just all part of a grand, cosmic prank?

Catastrophe of Epic Proportions

The earthquake struck without warning, destroying entire cities in its wake. Buildings shattered like house of cards, and the roar that followed was deafening. Worst Day Ever

It all started with a case of uncontrollable hair. I couldn't make it to look right. As I was running out the door, I trippedon and spilled all over my new shoes. To make matters worse, I was completely late for school.

I arrived. My {boss|friend|was absolutely furious. I attempted to explain, but it was a hopeless situation.

The rest of the day was even worse. Everything. I stay awake.

By the time I got home, I was utterly defeated. This day, this horrific day will be forever remembered as the worst day ever.

Things Went From Bad to Absolutely Terrible

It all started out horribly with a simple mishap/incident/screw-up. But then everything went from bad to absolutely terrible. A series/chain/cascade of unfortunate/awful/disastrous events unfolded/occurred/piled on top each other, leaving me feeling like I was in a nightmare/horror movie/comedy of errors. It's the kind of situation where you just want to throw your hands up.
